Get Info on Preparing for Emergencies

While emergency preparedness has been a hot topic due to acts of terrorism and thoughts of war, the Red Bank Office of Emergency Management would like to remind residents that it is a good idea to be prepared for the more common emergency situations we often find ourselves in.

In the past couple of years, Monmouth County has been faced with power outages, severe wind storms and blizzards, all of which have found residents with no power for several days and often unable to leave their homes.

There are several suggestions on how to prepare for such situations including stockpiling bottled water, canned food, a battery operated radio and a standard phone that does not require electricity to operate.

Any citizens with special medical needs or electrical needs should notify the Red Bank Office of Emergency Management at 732-345-8135. They will make sure JCP&L is aware of the special needs.

More information on preparing for emergencies can be found at the New Jersey Emergency Management Association Website (www.njema.org) or the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (www.state.nj.us/njoem).
