NWS issues Severe Heat/Storm Advisory

posted: 5, July 06, 2012 at 06:08PM

The Red Bank Office of Emergency Management has been advised that the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat and severe weather advisory for our area.  The current excessive heat event is expected to reach its peak on Saturday, July 7, with temperatures reaching over 100 degrees and heat indexes over 110 in many areas.  The heat is expected to continue into Sunday.

Extreme heat means there is the potential for severe thunderstorms.  Pay close attention to the issuance of any severe thunderstorm watches or warnings during this weekend.  Any severe thunderstorms which do develop may be able to produce wind gusts in excess of 70 miles an hour.

More information can be found at the National Weather Service website at weather.gov/phi.
