Mayor Menna seeks Volunteers for Mayor’s Wellness Committee

posted: 5, March 16, 2012 at 03:34PM

Mayor Pasquale Menna is looking for volunteers representing both the residential and business communities to participate in a Mayor’s Wellness Campaign Committee.

Councilman and Finance Committee Chair Michael DuPont has been a strong proponent of the program and the Council has supported his efforts by passing a resolution in July of last year to participate in the program.  The first step is the formation of a Committee that will coordinate efforts to make Red Bank a healthier community which will benefit both the residents and employees and, ultimately, help reduce costs.  Councilman DuPont recently noted that a town’s wellness can affect the bottom line in areas including health insurance costs.  He is hoping to begin the campaign with a focus on diabetes which he has noted is a serious issue affecting millions of individuals.

Suggestions for upcoming Mayor’s Wellness events include a Mayor’s Walking Club and an employee weight loss challenge.  Anyone interested in volunteering for the committee should contact Borough Clerk Pamela Borghi at 732-530-2740 or by email at pborghi@redbanknj.org.

The Mayor’s Wellness Campaign is an initiative of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities and works to equip Mayors with the tools to develop and implement active-living initiatives in their communities with the ultimate goal of improving health and reducing the skyrocketing health care costs that come with the obesity problem in New Jersey.
