Parking Kiosk System changeover set for Monday

posted: 5, June 22, 2012 at 07:28PM

Councilman  and Parking Committee Liaison Arthur V. Murphy and Parking Director Gary Watson have announced that a new Parking Kiosk System will be available in many Borough parking lots beginning next week.

The new system will feature centralized kiosks that will accept credit and debit cards, Red Bank Smart Cards and one dollar bills and coins.  The machines will not accept pennies and will not give change.  Credit card users will have the additional benefit of being able to use their cell phone to add additional parking time without having to return to the kiosk.

The kiosks are easily identifiable with a 15 foot tall post that has a large blue “Pay Here” sign along with other informational signage.  Additional colorful signage has been installed through out each affected lot offering information on how to use the kiosk, how to pay for metered time, the type of payments accepted and the hours that metered parking is in effect.  There will also be red signs placed at each exit of the lots to remind patrons to pay for their metered time.

The parking spaces have not changed, however each space is identified with a four digit number on the ground and on a post and placard in front of the space.  Green placards denote Permit Parking Spaces during the hours of 9 am to 2 pm. Burgundy placards denote public metered parking between 9 am and 6 pm.

The new kiosk system is available in the following lots:  North Maple Avenue Parking Lot, Marine Park Lot, Union Street Parking Lot, Wharf Avenue, English Plaza Parking Lot and the White Street Parking Lot.

Director Watson said the system is scheduled to become effective Monday, June 25 and they will have greeters in each of the lots wearing green safety vests to make them easily identifiable.  These greeters will be on hand to assist patrons with the new system and will be in the lot for the first two weeks the system is in place.  For questions on the system, please contact the Red Bank Parking Utility at 732-345-8135.
