The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Shaun Donovan, in a speech delivered on September 22, 2009, in Atlantic City, at the Governor’s Conference on Housing and Community Development, praised the efforts of Red Bank’s Mayor and Council as well as its Planning Board in adopting planning measures that will revitalize our community.

Secretary Donovan said:

“The town of Red Bank recently rezoned the area around its train station to promote inclusive development. A few blocks away, in a historic African American neighborhood, the community is working in partnership with a local church to build 36 affordable for-sale homes.”

“The latter was made possible because of NJ’s Balanced Housing program…”

“As NJ’s ‘Live Near You Work’ program demonstrates so clearly, for any community to succeed, it’s absolutely critical that the people, upon whom the community depends – who teach in our schools, police our streets and keep our small businesses strong – can themselves afford to live in the communities they serve.”

I am grateful to Secretary Donovan to have recognized the accomplishments of Red Bank and our volunteer Planning Board members.
