Price reduced for Parking Smart Card

Red Bank – Councilman Edward Zipprich, liaison the Department of Public Utilities, has announced a reduction in the price of pre-loaded parking smart cards that are used in the Borough’s parking meters. Just in time for the holiday rush, the lower price of $10.00 will promote an easy way to pay at meters and save time and money for shoppers and restaurant patrons.

Councilman Zipprich says “I hope the new $10.00 card will encourage more residents and visitors alike to use the parking smart card.” He also noted the card will enable the user to pay at the parking meter without coins and that they will only pay for time used since any leftover time on the meter can be refunded to the card.

The smart card technology has been used in the Borough’s parking meters for years. Both Mayor Pasquale Menna and Councilman Zipprich say that this technology is under promoted and under utilized. Councilman Zipprich said he feels that “every merchant in town should have these $10 parking cards on hand.” He went on to say “it will eliminate coin requests from patrons who normally go into a business and ask for change for the meters. A business owner may in turn want to offer a $10 card to a customer who wants $8.00 in quarters.”

Smart cards are available through River Center, Funk and Standard Variety Store and several other businesses. A full list of participating businesses and instructions on how to use the smart card are available on the Borough’s website at www.redbanknj.org. Cards may also be purchased at the Department of Public Utilities, 75 Chestnut Street, where existing card holders may also refill their cards.

Councilman Zipprich said he hopes that business owners will purchase cards to sell to their customers. “If every business owner had ten cards to sell to their customers the smart card would help reduce the stress of paid parking and fear of ticketing in the Borough.” Zipprich said.
