Copyright Kramer PortraitsPresident Fini stressed the close bilateral relations between Italy and the United States. In addition, he paid a moving, eloquent tribute to the “greatest generation”; those men and women who sacrificed life and health to liberate Italy and Europe from the clutches of the nightmare of Nazi and Fascist dictatorships in World War II. He said many lie in eternal repose in Italy and that Italians remember their sacrifice and that of the United States with great affection.
He reminded us that Italian service men and women stand alongside American forces today in Afghanistan and have also paid the supreme sacrifice in our joint action against international terrorism.
