The Borough of Red Bank has broken ground on the Bellhaven Nature Preserve project located on Locust Avenue. A pre-construction meeting was held on November 14 and the project is expected to be substantially complete by the end of 2019. Initial efforts were undertaken on the project in 2014 and after an extensive community engagement and feedback process, a project design was completed January 2019. The Project Engineer is Christine Ballard of T&M Associates. Public bids were solicited and received on September 18, 2019. On September 25, 2019, the Mayor and Council adopted Resolution 19-234 awarding a contract to Precise Construction, Inc. of Freehold, NJ in the amount of $197,065 for the improvements. In an effort to stay within budget and realize additional savings, the Borough purchased some project materials and equipment through cooperative purchasing agreements in the amount of approximately $196,000.
To further reduce the project expenses, a grant application was submitted to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection under the Green Acres program. On October 31, 2019, the Borough was notified that the application was approved and a grant was awarded in the amount of $105,843.
