Marine Park Improvement Project

Marine Park, Reimagined: More Space to Play, Gather, & Celebrate.

Red Bank’s waterfront park is transforming into a welcoming community space — where children play, families gather, and everyone can enjoy a peaceful, inclusive landscape.

Background:

Marine Park, at 1 Marine Park, Red Bank, NJ 07701, sits right on the Navesink River and has served for decades as a community hub for concerts and festivals, including the Red Bank Jazz & Blues Festival, while offering everyday waterfront access steps from downtown. After Hurricane Sandy damaged the old clay tennis courts, parking lot and walkways, the Borough began rethinking the entire 2.2-acre park, leading to a 2019 concept plan centered on more green space along the riverfront, better river access, and flexible event areas. Construction began in 2024 and advanced in 2025 to convert the old waterfront lot into a great lawn on the waterfront and build a large, inclusive playground. This project safeguards an essential public space and strengthens the heart of our riverfront for residents, families, and visitors

Information about Jake's Law - Green Acres Funding

Funding for Marine Park’s upgrades comes from a combination of Borough resources, grants, and partners — including a $750,000 grant award from New Jersey’s Green Acres Program under “Jake’s Law.” Jake’s Law (P.L. 2018, c.104) prioritizes state support for completely inclusive playgrounds that exceed ADA standards so children and adults with disabilities can play alongside their peers. Recent Green Acres funding rounds have expanded eligibility and recommended matching grants (up to 75%) for these inclusive projects across counties and municipalities, accelerating access to barrier-free play statewide.

This award is a direct recognition of Red Bank’s commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and sustainable recreation, and it helps bring our vision for Marine Park to life.

The Green Acres Program is run by the state department of Environmental Protection. More Information can be found at: NJ - Green Acres Program

The standards are set forth by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. More information can be found in the Community Affairs Division of Codes and Standards.
