Traffic Safety Bureau

The Traffic Safety Bureau consists of three full-time police officers, two part-time Special Law Enforcement Officers Class II (SLEOII), and twenty-five school crossing guards.

Responsibilities

The Traffic Safety Bureau is responsible for overseeing all traffic related law enforcement within the Borough, investigating serious and fatal motor vehicle collisions, reviewing collision reports filed by patrol officers, conducting follow-up investigations, conducting comprehensive traffic studies, coordinating all road construction projects within the Borough and planning and policing the many special events held throughout the year.

Training

The members of the Traffic Safety Bureau are specially trained in collision investigation including advanced accident investigation, accident reconstruction and traffic engineering.

Community Programs

The Traffic Safety Bureau works closely with the Patrol Division to conduct effective traffic enforcement programs aimed at reducing collisions and improving the quality of life throughout the Borough. The Traffic Safety Bureau aggressively pursues grant funding and participates in nationwide initiatives such as Click It or Ticket and Drive Sober of Get Pulled Over. These grants and initiatives are administered by the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety and enable police departments to deploy additional patrols specifically to combat dangerous driving behaviors without impacting the local budget.
